Cause-play (verb)
When a politician cosplays as a particular group (farmer, factory worker, etc) to try and pretend they give a shit about their cause.
e.g.
"Did you see Nigel Farage strutting around London in wellies and wax jacket? What a cause-playing twat"

I saw him wearing that. As an American i didn't think it was my place to say but he seemed like a caricature of a stereotype. Not a stereotype i get, mind you, but it has the appearance of an attempt.
@RnDanger it really is. His pre-politics career was a commodities trader in the centre of London, not farming.
His skill (as a populist) is to weaponise causes to make it seem like he is a man of the people, but all he ever wants is to avoid paying tax. That was the motivation for Brexit, that's the motivation for this.
